Be a guest
What to expect when you come on the show.
Built West is a long-form conversation about your work and the person doing it. Here’s how it runs, from the first call to release day.
- Format
- One guest, one conversation. No panel, no co-hosts.
- Length
- About an hour on tape. Plan for 90 minutes with setup.
- Where
- Remote on Riverside, from your own desk. In person when we can.
- Cost
- None. Guests don’t pay to appear, and spots aren’t for sale.
How it works
- 01
A short intro call
Fifteen or twenty minutes, a week or two before we record. We get to know each other and agree on the ground worth covering.
- 02
Themes, not a script
We send the themes ahead of time so nothing comes out of nowhere. There are no gotcha questions and nothing to memorize.
- 03
Recording day
You get a Riverside link that opens in your browser. Nothing to install. We do a quick sound check, then talk for about an hour.
- 04
The edit
We cut for flow and clarity, not for drama. If something comes out wrong while we’re recording, say so and we’ll take another run at it.
- 05
Release
We let you know the release date ahead of time. On the day, you get the links and short clips to share with your team and network.
Before you record
Your setup
- A quiet room with a door you can close
- Headphones or earbuds, so your mic doesn’t pick up the conversation
- A laptop or desktop with Chrome, plugged in
- Camera at eye level, with light in front of you rather than behind
- A wired connection if you have one; otherwise sit close to the router
- Notifications off, phone on silent
