Who We Are

Built West is a podcast about the people building technology in British Columbia, produced by Matt Vaillant in Victoria, BC. Matt is responsible for how Built West handles personal information. Questions go to hello@builtwest.ca.

What We Collect

• Email updates: your email address.
• Pitch a guest: your name, email, and what you tell us about the person you’re suggesting (their name, role, company, a link, and why they’d be a good guest).
• Contact form and emails: your name, email and message.
• Partnership enquiries: your name, work email, company, role, website and what you tell us about your goals.
• Website use, only if you accept cookies: pages you visit, how you arrived (for example from Instagram or a search engine), device and browser type, approximate location (city or region), and actions such as signing up.

We don’t collect payment information, and we don’t ask for sensitive information.

How We Use It

• To send the updates you asked for. You can unsubscribe at any time.
• To consider guest suggestions and follow up with you.
• To reply to your messages and partnership enquiries.
• To understand how people find and use the site, and whether our ads work.

We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t use it for anything you wouldn’t reasonably expect.

Cookies and Your Choices

We use Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel (Instagram and Facebook) only after you click Accept on our cookie banner. If you decline, no analytics or advertising cookies are set; Google may still receive basic, cookieless signals (for example, that a page was viewed), used only in aggregate.

You can change your choice any time: open cookie settings.

People We May Invite on the Show

To plan the show, we keep notes on potential guests: name, role, company, and publicly available professional information such as company websites, news coverage and public profiles. We use business contact details only to contact people about appearing on Built West. If you’d like to see or remove what we hold about you, email us.

Guests

If you appear on Built West, we’ll explain how your interview and related information will be used before we record.

Service Providers

We rely on a few trusted services: Netlify (website hosting, forms and our private planning tools), Google (analytics), Meta (ad measurement), Kit (our email list) and ImprovMX (email forwarding). Some of these store or process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States, where it may be subject to local laws.

How Long We Keep It

• Email updates: until you unsubscribe.
• Pitches, messages and partnership enquiries: up to two years, unless we’re still in touch.
• Website analytics: up to 14 months.
• Notes on potential guests: while they’re relevant to planning the show.

How We Protect It

Access is limited to Built West. Our planning tools require a password and two-factor authentication, and all connections to the site are encrypted.

Your Rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, or withdraw your consent, by emailing hello@builtwest.ca. We’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

Children

Built West isn’t directed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we update this policy, we’ll change the date at the top of this page.
